Laura and Jamie selected for Stirling by GB

European 1500m champion and double world indoor medallist Laura Muir will headline the British team to compete at the Great Stirling Cross Country on Saturday12 January.

It’s a new venue for this event, of course, following the move from Edinburgh after a number of years in the capital.

Muir, who also took the 1500m Diamond League title in Brussels in August, makes her fifth straight appearance in the 4 x 1.5K relay team, and it yet to be beaten in the event.

Laura anchors the British Mixed relay team once again and is joined by fellow Scot, Jamie Williamson, of Sprinburn Harriers as they are joined by Phil Sesemann of Leeds and Alex Bell of Pudsey & Bramley.

The Stirling event pits Great Britain & Northern Ireland against the best athletes in Europe and the United States of America.

Scotland will have one team in the Mixed Relay and we hope to be able to announce that selection at some point next week.

Lindsays Scottish National XC champion Kristian Jones, the Dundee Hawkhill Harriers athlete who finished 12^th at the Euro Cross at the weekend after a late call-up, is named in the GB Senior Men’s team.

Kate Avery, who took team silver at the European Cross Country Championships in Tilburg on Sunday and won the Great Edinburgh Cross Country in 2016, joins top Brit from Tilburg, Charlotte Arter, with fellow team silver medallists Pippa Woolven , Jess Piasecki and Verity Ockenden. Jess Piasecki is currently being coached by Robert Hawkins.

In total, 13 medallists from the 2018 European Cross Championships are selected, including Under-23 team silver medallist Patrick Dever, who recorded the best finish of his career to date with an individual fifth place, earning himself a first senior British vest.

There are no Junior team races this time around, with a Junior GB team joining Scotland and the Senior GB teams in the Mixed Relay against America and Europe.
