Scotland head for Leeds; North Hill Champs

Thursday 1st November 2018

European Championship medallist Eilish McColgan is set to race for Scotland at the Leeds Abbey Dash 10K on Sunday.

McColgan, who won silver in the 5000m in Berlin, will now lead our female selection for the race in Yorkshire.

It’s always a terrific race which is conducive to PB performances and Scottish athletes have delivered some good times in recent years – including 32.05 course record run from Eilish.

In terms of the men, the Scottish contingent is now three strong via Adam Craig, Euan Gillham and Kenny Wilson.

Current form was taken into account as part of the selection process including the Scottish 10K Champs at Stirling and recent races in Inverness and Glasgow. Under the Road Running and Cross Country Commission guidelines, one athlete in each team is U23.

Here are the Scotland teams:

Women:

Eilish McColgan (Dundee Hawkhill, Liz McColgan); Mhairi Maclennan (Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds, John Lees); Steph Pennycook (Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds, John Lees); Annabel Simpson (Fife AC, Steve Doig) U23

Men:

Adam Craig (Inverclyde AC, Matthew van Lierop); Euan Gillham (Kilbarchan AAC, Robert Hawkins) U23; Kenny Wilson (Moray Road Runners, Carol Sim)

We wish all Scots racing in Leeds at the Abbey Dash 10K all the very best for Sunday’s race – and their coaches, clubs and supporters.
