Listen to the podcast

It’s been quite a year for Eilish McColgan with some fine performances on the track culminating in that superb silver medal at 5000m at the European Championships.

And it’s always good to share opportunities for the athletics public in Scotland to gain a greater insight into our top athletes.

The ‘Backstraight Boys (and Girl) Athletics Chat’ podcasts are hosted by Claire Thomas and her latest interview with Eilish is a really good listen.

‘Eilish is now a formidable athlete in her own right with PBs like 4.01, 8.31 and 14.48 rubbing shoulders with very top Brits even though the road has not been smooth,’ said Claire.

‘The last few seasons have been transformative so it was fascinating to catch up with her at the end of her 2018 campaign. Hope you enjoy listening to the podcast.’

Beth Dobbin returned from her European Championships debut delighted with her 2018 season after reaching the final in Berlin.

This season, of course, saw Beth break the 200m Scottish record a number of times after it had been held by Sandra Whittaker for fully 34 years. Then, in July, Beth competed in Birmingham where she became the British Champion.

So, what was it like to be called up for Team GB, what are her hopes the next few years bring and what was it like winning the title in Birmingham?
