ENTER FPSG Age Groups; Ian McWatt; UKA Selection policies

Friday 16th February 2018

The FPSG Age Group Champs are at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow next month.

National championship medals will be up for grabs at U20, U15 and U13 level over the weekend of March 10/11.

It is the highlight of the indoor season for athletes in those age brackets and we would urge coaches, parents and clubs to support the FPSG Age Group Champs.

Entries are being taken online and there are restrictions in some events in order to make the overall numbers workable for our scottishathletics Officials and for the programme itself.

The U13s compete on the Saturday and the U15s on the Sunday, with the events split across the two days for those in the U20 age group.

Entries close at midnight on Sunday 25 February – so please make you sure you go online and register your name rather than leaving it to the last minute or missing out!

scottishathletics Officials – and our wider community – has been saddened to learn that Ian McWatt has passed away.

A well-known figure in the photo-finish team and timekeeping, Ian was a huge supporter of athletics across a range of events over a number of years. He officiated at Glasgow 2014 as part of the large cohort of local Officials.

All at scottishathletics offer our condolences to the McWatt family at this sad time.

We have been asked to publicise details of Ian’s funeral for his friends in the sport.

The summer track and field season may remain some way distant at the moment – but there’s no harm in athletes and coaches starting to make plans.

And for those towards the elite end of the sport, there’s no harm in aiming high!

British Athletics have already issued a whole host of selection policies for forthcoming international events coming up in 2018 – including the European Championships in Berlin.

The European Winter Throws and the World Half Marathon Champs look to be the first events which may be applicable to Scottish athletes and some of those in our National Academy squad should be targeting events in July.

*IAAF World Juniors in Tampere, Finland (July 10-15). Born 1999 or 2000

*European Youth Champs in Gyor, Hungary (July 5-8). Born 2001 or 2002

With big representation for Scotland in GB and NI age group teams in recent years, it would be terrific to see that being replicated again in 2018 and coaches and athletes are invited to set the bar as high as possible in terms of targets!

All the selection policies are online on the UK Athletics website.

The next Open Graded event at Aberdeen Sports Village will be held on Sunday 4 March.

This is following a date switch by organisers Aberdeen AAC with the scheduled Sunday 25 February event now cancelled, with the Muller Indoor GP taking place that day in Glasgow (including club relays in certain age groups).

Details on the events for the Sunday 4 March Open Graded are on our Events section page
