Entry forms for Lindsays National XC Relays

It’s the start of the scottishathletics cross country action this weekend – with District XC Relays taking place at three venues.

And once again there has been a massive response from clubs up and down the country with hundreds of entries submitted for the East and North events this Saturday and the West races which take place on Sunday.

No fewer than a total of 2562 athletes names have been forward to our three event organisers for the races at Glamis Castle near Forfar (East); Edderton near Tain (North) and Hamilton Racecourse (West).

This is a really good sign for the health of our sport and we want to formally offer a big thank-you to all those making a commitment to these District XC Relays events – athletes, parents, coaches, volunteers and clubs.

It definitely bodes very well for the Lindsays Cross Country season which begins with the National XC Relays at Cumbernauld on Saturday 28 October.

Clubs should be aware the entry deadline for that event is next Monday (October 16). Forms can be emailed events@scottishathletics.org.uk

Here are the entry numbers for this weekend’s events:

West East North
Individuals Teams Individuals Teams Individuals Teams
Men 570 112 441 83 66 11
Women 277 74 257 67 39 12
Boys 271 80 184 47 39 10
Girls 224 67 158 41 36 12
Totals 1342 333 1040 238 180 45

Without going over the top, the Senior figures herein for both the East event at Glamis Castle on Saturday and for the West races at Hamilton on Sunday are very good indeed and indeed records for the District XC Relays.

In the East, the Senior Women entry of teams is up from 61 to 67 and from 76 to 83 for the Senior Men. In the West, the Senior Women entry of teams is up from 47 to 74 and from 89 to 112 for the men.

Of course we want to see finisher numbers acting as confirmation that more athletes from more clubs are getting out to compete and fulfilling one of our favourite mandates: ‘Competition – It’s What You Train For’.
