Coach Development

scottishathletics are now accepting applications from coaches who wish to be considered for the new Coach Support Programme (formerly known as Coach Apprentice Programme).

The Coach Support Programme (CSP) is a formal coach development programme, developing knowledge and understanding of athletic development and physical preparation, technical development and the planning of these elements.

Coaches who are successful in accessing the programme will initially commit for one year.

They will benefit from an annual review with scottishathletics to track their progress and plan their required support for the following 12 months.

The aims of the programme:

*Raise standards of coaching practice across the coaching pathway in Scotland

*Address gaps in technical, physical preparation and planning expertise

*Identify and develop key people to deliver future coach development opportunities

We are accepting applications from coaches with the following qualities:

*Open and growth mindset

*Positive coaching environment

*Coaching a group of developing athletes, showing evidence of good practice

*Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work closely with other coaches

*Willingness to work with a designated coach to progress one’s own coaching expertise and skill set

*Previous athlete experience will also be considered

Successful applicants will receive the following benefits from the programme:

*Structured and augmented ongoing support

The expectations of coaches accepted on the programme should be:

*Commitment to actively participate in the Coach Support Programme

*Demonstrate a commitment to the professional development of your coaching practice

*Support future coaches going through the Coach Support Programme

*Attend and support the National Coaching Conference

*Undergo a PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) check
