The park next to the seat of learning that is Kirkcaldy High School has a strong cross country connection for young athletes.
Dunnikier Park is the regular venue for the Scottish Primary Schools XC Champs and playing host to the Lindsays Short Course XC offered further room for development,
Age group changes mean we hosted U16 and U18 races this year with strong fields evident in Fife.
Reflecting a broader approach to success for young athletes, we introduced pin badge awards to augment medal presentations.
At U16, the top nine athletes were celebrated with ‘podium’ photos and their badge awards. At U18, the top six were celebrated.
With clubs invited to place focus on team medals, too, it is hoped the broader view in Kirkcaldy helps in some small way to teenage athlete retention.

The U16 Girls started the programme and hadthemost decisive win of the dayas Aberdeen AAC’s Millie Glass-Park won by 21 seconds. Gabi Whyte of Perth was second and Abbie Boyle of Law and District AAC toook bronze.
There were five further clubs represented in our top nine list.
U16 Girls team: 1 Edinburgh AC; 2 Perth Strathtay Harriers; 3 Aberdeen AAC.
Edinburgh AC athlete Toby Comer won the U16 Boys race from Dunfermline’s Alfie Whyte. James Shinnie took bronze to give Aberdeen AAC another podium moment.
U16 Boys team: 1 Giffnock North Ac; 2 Harmeny AC; 3 Dundee Hawkhill Harriers

The U18 Women’s race was an exciting watch as six seconds covered the top three. East Kilbride AC’s Nina Clark took a fine gold from Ross County AC’s Cora Comisso. Rachel Caves of Harmeny AC was third.
U18 Women’s team: 1 Giffnock North AC; 2 East Kilbride AC; 3 Harmeny AC.
Ewan Thomson of Inverness Harriers made the long trip to compete more than worthwhile as he landed U18 Men’s gold in a tight finish with Harrison MacMillan. Harrison’s twin Rory completed a family moment on the podium with bronze.
U18 Men’s team: 1 Falkirk Victoria Harriers; 2 Gala Harriers; 3 Aberdeen AAC.
So an excellent day in terms of team and individual success for the likes of Aberdeen AAC, Giffnock North and Edinburgh AC.
But, further afield from the big city clubs, well done to the likes of Gala, East Kilbride, Ross County, Dunfermline, Law and District AAC and Falkirk Vics.
