Jemma road mile Euro Record as Eilish wins Big Half in London

Jemma Reekie dipped her toes into road racing at the weekend – to spectacular effect!

The Kilbarchan AAc athlete took on a mile road race in German and won in a new European Record.

Jemma clocked 4:23.25 at the New Balance Ko Meile meet in Dusseldorf to win by almost three seconds.

It is expected Jemma will race the distance again this coming weekend at the famous Fifth Avenue Mile in New York.

Eilish McColgan claimed her fourth victory at the Big Half in London on Sunday after returning to action following five months out with a broken toe.

The 35-year-old Scot suffered the injury during the London Marathon in April, crossing the line in seventh place with blood seeping through her shoe, and was forced to pull out of July’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

But Eilish showed the benefit of a month of warm weather training, completing a comfortable victory back in the English capital in 70:54.

‘I haven’t even run 13 miles in training! I have mentally ticked that box and can push on from here, which is great,’ said the British women’s half-marathon record holder.

Andy Butchart made a solid start to his road career with fourth place at 63:08. Strathearn Harriers athlete Harris Pagett finished in the top ten at tenth place with 67:02.

It has been quite a summer for Aberdeen AAC wheelchair racer Joanna with her Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow followed by Diamond League competiton in Belgium. Brilliant!
