Record breaker! Callum’s brilliant two days and Age Group bests

Callum Newby claimed gold in the Scottish CE Champs with a new heptathlon record.

The Edinburgh ac athlete came up with a series of fine performances over two days to also land silver in the UK Champs.

Callum tallied 5731 points to take down Record previously held by Andrew Murphy.

Sammy Ball won the British gold with 5849 points as the Emirates once again hosted the UK Champs. Taking gold in the Women’s event was Thea Brown with 4320 points.

Adam Hoole took the Scottish and UK bronze and to complete the top three.

In the Women’s Champs, the top three Scots involved were Lucy Woodward, Amy Kennedy and Allie Routledge. Lucy set a Native Record with her tally of 3996.

There were Scottish Records in younger age groups to add to Callum’s big moment.

Cara Monachello set U18 sprint hurdles best and Dionne Maguiness improved the U18 Pentathlon Record with 4059. Leanna Elliot was also over the previous best.

The U18 medals were as follows:

Men: 1 Douglas Knox (Springburn); 2 Kalle McKay (Banchory); Louis Vallet (Aberdeen)

Women: 1 Dionne Maguiness (Airdrie); 2 Leanna Elliot (Cumbernauld); Cara Monachello (Kilmarnock)
