Jemma Reekie believes her career can ‘move forward’ despite deep disappointment in Tokyo.

The Scot missed out on the semi-finals of the World Champs after competing in Thursday’s heats in Japan.

Jemma finished in fifth place in one of the fastest of the race in 1:59.35 – but only the top three were assured of qualifying. As it transpired, that time was not among the top three for non-automatic qualifying.

So there was acute frustration for the Kilbarchan AAC athlete but with Glasgow 2026 on the horizon bouncing back next year will be a priority,

‘It’s not what I wanted to be,’ said Jemma.

‘It’s a common theme this season. But I’ve just got to trust the process.

‘I’ve been training a lot better than that, and I’ve definitely got stronger than that last 100m. But it’s just bringing that into racing.

‘‘I’ve tried to change things up and been learning a lot in the past year, obviously it’s not where I want to be and I’ll just keep building forward.

‘My hope was to come out here and get back into those finals and it’s disappointing to not do that.’
