Scottish athletes headed for Cardiff with a strong cohort – and impressed at the Welsh Senior Championships.

The meeting also doubled up as the European U23 Trials for GB and NI with the team to be named later this week.

Brodie Young led the way in terms of the medals with victory in the Senior Men’s 400m final.

And the Airdrie Harrier did so with a Stadium Record performance at 45.62 seconds as he gets closer to the Commonwealth Games standard (45.47).

In Para events, Adam Donnachie was first in his category in the seated shot as he threw 9m – for a new PB. Callum Ballantyne made the podium, too, in T20 1500m after clocking 4:53.88 in heat one of the men’s event.

Kirsty Law was another event winner in the Women’s discus with 53.86.

Murray Fotheringham was second in the Long Jump with 7.67 windy leap. Stirling Uni athlete Ryan Martin was second in the Men’s 1500m with 3:43.24.

Edinburgh Uni athlete Peter Bradshaw was second in the 3000m Steeplechase with 8.58.11.

There were a couple of fourth places in sprint finals on Sunday afternoon – Alyson Bell in the 200m at 23.30 and Rebecca Grieve in the 400m at 52.91. On Saturday, Sofia Vidak had finished fourth in the Women’s 800m final at 2:06.75.

Amy Kennedy was third in the Shot with 14.49m. Silver Nwabuzor was second in the Triple Jump with 12.53m; good to see 17-year-old Matilda Brockley make that final.

Well done to all the Scottish athletes who made the trip to Wales and to the support from families, coaches and clubs.
