America-based Brodie Young has made significant progress over the past couple of years – and is now a National Record holder.
The University of New Mexico athlete who came through the ranks at Airdrie Harriers clocked a superb time of 45.96 in his opening indoor 400m run of the season in the States in Albuquerque.
And that run takes down the Men’s 400m Scottish Indoor Record set by Brian Whittle no fewer than 37 years ago. Brian clocked 45.98 in Hungary in 1988.
Brodie’s National Record – which will be subject to the usual ratification processes – was just one of a series of fine performances by top Scots over the weekend.
His University of New Mexico team-mate, Pitreavie AAC athlete, Rebecca Grieve came up with fine runs at 200m and 400m for PB performances.
Rebecca’s 23.72 takes her fourth in the all-time list at 200m Indoors and moves her above Lee McConnell and Alisha Rees. She also clocked 52.82 for 400m.
*Jemma Reekie delivered a fine season opener in 800m in France as she posted 1:59 . That is inside the World Indoors qualifying standard.
*Neil Gourley was sixth in the stunning Wanamaker Mile race at the Millrose Games in New York which saw the World Record broken. Neil clocked a PB of 3:49.22.
*Eilish McColgan was in Half Marathon action in Dubai and finished second int he women’s race with a chip time of 68:57 as she prepares for the London Marathon.
