Lynn McKenna and Taha Ghafari gave Shettleston Harriers a gold medal double at the Lindsays Wests District XC.

Kilbarchan AAC were our hosts for a new championshjp venue at Barwood Park – with the Erskine Bridge and Kilpatrick Hills as the backdrop.

Conditions were benign for this time of year and in contrast to the snow of Strathaven some 12 months previously.

Lynn led the Women’s race out and was never really under threat as Rosa Donaldson of Bellahouston Harriers took the silver with 2023 champion, Eve Mackinnon of Cambuslang Harriers, completing the podium.

The Men’s race was very competitive initially with a strong group that featured Andy Douglas of Inverclyde AC and Scott Stirling of Falkirk Vics, racing via his West District residency.

Jamie Burns of Shettleston returned after an injury and took a well-earned third place as his Shettleston club-mate Taha proved just too quick over the last 100m to edge out new Cambuslang recruit, Kevin Campbell.

Cambuslang took a double in terms of the team titles – their women winning gold from Shettleston and Garscube. The Cambuslang men had four in the top 12 to win emphatically from Shettleston and Bellahouston Harriers.

The U20 individual titles went to Giffnock duo Oliver MacDonald and Saoirse McNulty while at U17 there were golds for Daibhidh Kinnaird of Cambuslang and Zara Redmond of Kilbarchan.

At U15 level, the West champions were Louie Muir (Giffnock) and Grace Barry (Inverclyde AC). Our West U13 champions were Evan Tyler (Giffnock) and Emma Nicholson (Giffnock).

Giffnock won team titles at U13 Girls, U13 Boys, U15 Girls and U15 Boys. Kilbarchan won U17 Men team golds and Giffnock took the U17 Women race. At U20, Giffnock won both titles as well!

Garscube won the Women’s Masters golds and Cambuslang won the Men’s Masters race. Our champions there were
