Off and running: Race to Glasgow 2026 enters last lap . . . and our elite Scots are flying

The Team Scotland window for Glasgow 2026 qualification standards only has a couple of weeks to run.

That deadline probably explains why a huge cohort of top Scottish athletes were in action in Europe and America over the weekend.

Laura Muir and Andy Butchart were among those to post standards – over 5000m in Belgium – while Josh Kerr and Jake Wightman delivered 1:44 runs over 800m.

Megan Keith’s 5000m run was highly impressive, too. Already confirmed as selected, Megan was second in the race at 14:54 for an excellent return to track action after the World Champs last year.

Also in Brussels, the Scotland 4x100m Women’s team (again) achieved a Commonwealth Games qualifying standard with 44.60. The team featured Lucy Fraser, Alyson Bell, Kaya Slater and Alisha Rees.

Los Angeles: Men 800m: Josh Kerr 1:44.60; Jake Wightman 1:44.74. Men 1500m: Ryan Martin 3:37.97.

USA: NCAA Division Two: Men 1500m – Caleb McLeod 3:49.25

Brussels: Men 5000m: Andy Butchart 13:32.55; Ben Potrykus 13:45.10; Ben MacMillan 13:50.95

Brussels: 400m: Ben Heron 47.55; Greg Kelly 47.77; Kyle Alexander 47.96.

800m: Guy Learmonth 1:47.94; 100m: Krishawn Aiken 10.59; Dean Patterson 10.69

Brussels: Women 100m: Kaya Slater 11.65; Lucy Fraser 11.66

Women 4x100m: 44.60 (Fraser, Alyson Bell, Slater, Alisha Rees.

Sunday:

Brussels: Men 1500m: Andrew McGill 3:40.82; Kane Elliott 3:40.84
