Scottish Athletics Senior Hill Running Championships 2023

Scotland’s hill runners will be heading to Arran this weekend to compete in the Scottish Athletics Senior Hill Running Championships 2023.

The race starts on the edge of Brodick with a mile of tarmac before reaching the base of the 874m peak

Then the course climbs through the forestry and follows a granite trail to the summit, the last section to the summit is rough and scrambly in places – making a fun descent.

Runners will return the same way and hope they have some speed in their legs after the fast descent to return to Brodick.

There are 250 runners entered and the start-lists include Andy Douglas (Inverclyde AC) and Holly Page (Carnethy HRC), recent GB call-ups for the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships.

Heather Anderson (Fife AC) is returning to race the W40 category after injury and the M60 race includes Colin Donnelly (Cambuslang) and Stewart Whitlie (Carnethy).

Westerlands, Shettleston and Carnethy are fielding strong teams in the men’s and women’s events

Shettleston Harriers are hosting the event and busy preparing the post-race fare.
