Herald interview with Andy Butchart by Susan Egelstaff

Andy Butchart is looking towards road running for the next stage of his career.

And he came up with a slight improvement on his half marathon PB with a solid performances in the New York Half Marathon event over the weekend.

Andy clocked 62:58 to finish in sixth place on a day when conditions in New York were not all that favourable.

Jacob Kiplimo dominated to win in 61:31. Britain’s Chris Thompson was one of the early leaders faded to finish 16th in 64:32.

Andy isn’t ruling out a return to the track but will focus on the roads for the moment.

‘I’ve been watching a lot of half marathons to try and get my head around how they are actually run,’ he told the Herald.

‘I feel like they are much more difficult than 5k on the track as tactics don’t come into it as much. Athletes who compete on the roads are a different breed from those on the track. It is just about running hard and whoever is fittest on the day will win.’
