Nicole Yeargin has opened up her indoor season in spectacular style in America – and posted a superb 400m PB at the weekend.

The Scot, whose mum is from Dunfermline, won relay medals with GB and NI and Team Scotland at three major championships last summer.

And after an indoor 300m run the previous week which is a Scottish Best, Nicole then clocked 51.02 for 400m indoors to finish third in an event in Fayetteville in Arkansas.

That’s faster than the current Scottish Indoor Record of 51.45 held by Eilidh Doyle – and is actually close to Nicole’s outdoor best for the distance.

The Record is subject to the usual ratification process and Nicole’s time  also places Nicole fourth on the British all-time list.

It was one of a number of strong performances by our elite athletes in various locations.

Guy Learmonth clocked 1:46.84 for an excellent opening 800m performance in Lyon as he took third place in the World Indoor Tour bronze meeting.

And Lynsey Sharp was back at that distance in Manchester with a solid run of 2:04.64 after only returning to racing three weeks ago with her 600m run in Glasgow.

Also in Manchester, Erin Wallace clocked 4:10.43 for 1500m with Jenny Selman at 4:12.10. Eloise Walker was second in the 3000m race in 9:06.32.

In America, Rebecca Grieve recorded a 2:07.91 run for 800m to move to fifth on the U20 list for indoor performances.
