Scottish Schools at Hampden

Hampden Starter

Hundreds of young Scottish athleties are headed for Hampden later this week for a ‘once in a lifetime’ chance to compete at the Glasgow 2014 venue.

The Scottish Schools secondary track and field championships will take place on Friday and Saturday in the first event since the national football stadium was transformed for the Commonwealth Games.

It will be a memorable and special occasion for all involved – including athletes, teachers, coaches, parents and officials – and the fixture will be run with testing procedures undertaken by Glasgow 2014.

As such, scottishathletics would like to ‘flag-up’ a few important points which will hopefully make Friday and Saturday pass more smoothly for all concerned.

Firstly, please check on the SSAA website for important information regarding parking, access, declarations and timetable – it would be really helpful if people could read this in advance.

Follow the link here http://www.ssaa.co.uk/

A few ‘highlights’ from that information are as follows:

*Car parking for the event is at Queens Park Recreation Ground, a 10-minute walk from Hampden. All buses and minibuses must park there.

*Please note you must declare at least 90 minutes before your first event. You may need to leave extra time for accreditation process.

Declarations will be open both days until 90 minutes before the final event (rather than the usual closure of 2pm).

*C and D athletes should already have their accreditation following the trial event at Grangemouth. A few C and D athletes who do not have them as yet are asked to report to accreditation.

All A and B athletes need to do so prior to declaring and here they will be given their ‘Athlete Accreditation’ and wristbands for family members. The first event is at 10am each day – declarations open at 8am.

*Entrance to the stadium is only available via Somerville Drive.

*There are two call rooms; the first will be at the warm-up track and the second inside the main stadium.

*Club vests should not be worn.

*Athletes in the B group who finish first, second or third will be asked to declare availability for the SIAB track and field international in Cardiff on Saturday 19 July.
