Scottish Junior hill running champs on Saturday

Tuesday 6th May 2014

Ben Lomond is the venue this Saturday for the scottishathletics Junior Hill Running Champs and the latest fixture in the league season.

The races start and finish in the car park at Rowardennan on Loch Lomondside and use the same courses at last year.

For athletes born in 1997 and 1998 the event also carries the possibility of selection for the World Mountain Running Junior event in Italy at the end of June.

Entries are taken on the day at the Rowardennan pier car park between 10.15am and 11.15am.

Age-groups, distances and climb are as follows:

  • Under-15 Born in years 2001 and 2000. 2.7k and 155m.
  • Under-17 Born in years 1998 and 1999. 4.3k and 235m
  • Under-20 Born in years 1995, 1996 and 1997. 6k and 360m.

The courses utilise three loops, one short (approx 1.5k), a medium one (approx 2.7k) and a long loop (3.2k). All loops employ the Ben Lomond tourist path for the ascent, but use alternative descent routes.

The U20 girls race will be combined with the U15 boys and girls race to avoid any conflict with the senior Ben Lomond race which starts at 1pm.

First off at 11.20am is the Fun Run race for athletes of all ages, involving one lap of the short loop, starting and finishing at the pier car park. Entry fee 10p. Please bring change as there is now a £3 charge to park at Rowardennan
