Scottish championship road races 2015

Sunday 22nd February 2015

Loch Ness Marathon 2013

scottishathletics are pleased to announce a series of Scottish Championship events at  five distances linked to road races in 2015.

The Scottish Championship medals will again be incorporated into the races, following decisions by our Road Running and Cross Country Commission.

It all starts in April with the Tom Scott Memorial road race doubling up as the 10-Mile Champs and concludes in October at the Great Scottish Run.

Details on a scottishathletics Road Race Grand Prix will be issued at a later date – at this juncture we are simply keen to give people the dates and venues for the five events which have been afforded Scottish Championship status.

Entries for some of these events will open soon and athletes and coaches are asked to keep an eye on our Events page for listings as they become current (please enter ‘Summer 2015’ to the filter section to help see some of these races).

Here are the events in question:

Sunday 5 April: Scottish 10-Mile Champs: The Tom Scott Memorial Road Race at Strathclyde Country Park

Wednesday 29 April: Scottish 5k Champs: Run and Become Self Transcendence 5k at Silverknowes, Edinburgh

Sunday 13 September: Scottish 10K Champs: Stirling 10k at Forthbank Stadium

Sunday 27 September: Scottish Marathon Champs: The Loch Ness Marathon

Sunday 4 October: Scottish Half Marathon Champs: The Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in Glasgow

It is the fifth year in a row the Loch Ness Marathon has been chosen to stage the Scottish marathon champs and former winner, Team scotland’s Ross Houston, firmly recommends the event.

Houston said:  ‘I’ve always enjoyed competing in the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon. It’s a beautiful course and a very well organised race.

‘There’s always a great atmosphere and it’s a fantastic event which caters well for runners of all levels of experience.  The fact that it has been awarded the Scottish championships for the fifth year in a row is a real feather in the cap of the race and shows it is held in high regard.’
