Run for Scotland in Denmark

Olympian Derek Hawkins leads the Scotland selection for a half marathon international opportunity in Denmark next month.

The Rio marathon runner will be joined by five others for the Lillebaelt Half Marathon on Saturday 6 May as Scotland foll0w-up on an appearance at this event last year.

Kilbarchan AAC athlete Derek, silver medallist at the Scottish 10-Mile Champs, will be joined by Scottish 5K champion Mark Mitchell of Forres Harriers for the trip, while Central AC’s Cameron Milne is rewarded for a good run at the Alloa Half Marathon.

Inverness athlete Jenny Bannerman returns to Denmark after racing last year and is joined by Jenn Wetton (Central Ac) and Gemma Rankin (Kilbarchan AAC).

The Scottish contingent performed well last year on a day when times were affected by high temperatures and very strong winds. Hayley Haining was runner-up and Andy Douglas finished third.

Many congratulations to all the athletes selected and their families and coaches as well as the clubs involved in their development over the years.
