Poster Officials Courses – Athletics Announcer

Could you be a vibrant voice for athletics, keeping athletes informed with vital information and giving spectators the inside track?

We’re always trying to educate and improve the provision of athletics officials and that’s why we’re running an Athletics Announcer Course in January.

The sessions, both theory and practical, will take place at the Emirates Arena on Sunday 10 January from 11am through to 4.30pm.

And we’re delighted that Geoff Wightman, who was stadium commentator at both the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, will lead the course.

The course is FREE and is for anyone keen to learn more about announcing, be that at a track and field competition or a road running and cross country-type competition.

We’re aiming for you to learn how to create a vibrant atmosphere at an athletics meeting. The courses will be delivered in an interactive practical and lecture setting and will cover:

*When to speak

*When not to speak

*What to look out for

*What to say

*How to say it

*How to follow the flow of the meeting and keep it on track and to time

*Other announcements you may have to make

We’re planning to do theory work between 11am and 1pm with practical sessions from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

To book a place please download and complete the Education Booking Form and return by post to Shona Malcolm, Scottish Athletics, Caledonia House, South Gyle, Edinburgh, EH12 9DQ.
