Grand Prix wins for Cummins and Emsley

Grand Prix wins for Cummins and Emsley

3rd October 2013

Dermot Cummins and Jennifer Emsley are the winners of the scottishathletics Road Race Grand Prix for 2013.

The athletes each pick up the top prize of £750 following the series which covers five events across the season and culminated in the Loch Ness Marathon last weekend.

Corstorphine AAC athlete Cummins won the menís title from Cambuslangís Kerry-Liam Wilson and Edinburgh ACís Bryan Mackie.

Polish athlete, Patryk Gierjatowicz, saw his Loch Ness marathon run land him £200 for fourth place in the Grand Prix with Max McNeill (Lothian RC) taking fifth place and collecting £150.

The other five men in the top ten were as follows: Ben Hukins, Barry Paterson, Robbie Simpson, Andrew Butchart and Josh Lilly.

It was good to see five of the men compete in four of the events.

Central ACís Emsley was well clear of the womenís field before her marathon debut at Loch Ness.

Fife ACís Megan Crawford set a course record in the Highlands and that helped her to second and £375 with Fiona Matheson and Elspeth Curran in joint third to each collect £225. Edinburgh ACís Laura Dunn was fifth for £150.

The other five women in the top ten were as follows: Jillian Gordon, Jennifer MacLean, Joasia Zakrzewski, Nicola Duncan and Fiona Thompson.

In the womenís event, only winner Emsley scored in four events and seven were among the prize-money for
competing in two or fewer events.
