Butler Set For Return
11th December 2002
Scottish 1500m Champion Kathy Butler is hoping to return to action next month after six months on the sidelines, according to reports.
Butler who missed out on competing for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games after she was diagnosed with the pelvic condition, osteitis pubis in June. The Edinburgh-born runner was on crutches for months, unnable to do anything too strenuous.
Her return to fitness has been a very slow process. She began by jogging a mile then walking a mile but has now built up to running 70 miles a week and can finally see light at the end of the tunnel.
"I have lots of options" said the Former European Cup 3000m winner, "It could possibly be a cross country race in somewhere like Spain. There are lots of indoor races in America but I like the idea of cross country, it is a lot more forgiving."
The World Cross Country Championships are scheduled for the end of March, but the track season could be a more realistic prospect. "The main focus has got to be the World Championships in Paris." she said.
