SCOTS WIN CUP FOR FIFTH YEAR IN SUCCESSION

SCOTS WIN CUP FOR FIFTH YEAR IN SUCCESSION

22nd February 2010

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES FROM SCOTTISH ATHLETES abounded at the Celtic Indoor Cup held in Cardiff on Sunday, 21st February.

The day got off to a fantastic start with Jade Nimmo long jumping to an indoor personal best and an extension to her Scottish Junior Indoor record with 6.20 metres, good enough for the Women’s outstanding performance of the meet.

The Men won every track race except the 4 x 400 metre relay, and the Women demonstrated good form with victories in the 60 hurdles from Gemma Werrett and the 800 metres, Seonaid Murray

Not to be outdone by Nimmo’s record, Guy Learmonth broke the Scottish Junior Indoor record for the fifth time this season, clocking a time of 1:50.57 with a gun to tape victory, capturing the Men’s outstanding performance award.

Both Nimmo and Learmonth will cap their indoor seasons at the UKA Under-20 Championships next weekend in Birmingham before beginning their preparation for the outdoor season and a shot at the World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada.

The team scores in Cardiff were: First - Scotland – 76.5; Second - Wales – 55.5; Third - Ireland – 54; Fourth - UWIC – 45
