WEEKEND UPDATE FOUR: NEW SUPERTEAMS CHAMPIONS

WEEKEND UPDATE FOUR: NEW SUPERTEAMS CHAMPIONS

16th February 2010

Falkirk Victoria Harriers 'A' team and guest side St Brendans AC 'A' were the brilliant winners of the latest installment of SUPERTEAMS at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow on Saturday (13 February).

The indoor version of the competition includes 60m, long jump, shot putt and a 4 x 200m relay, compared to 800m, long jump, javelin and a 4 x 100m relay in the outdoor version, and each athlete's score is combined for the overall team total.

Falkirk Victoria Harriers (Nicola Milne, Claire Anderson, Abigail Black and Kirstin McIntee), third in the first edition of indoor SUPERTEAMS - although with a different line up of athletes - won with a total of 275 in a dominant performance ahead of second placed Irish team Nenagh Olympic AC (Ciordah Maher, Laura Costelloe, Emma Hennessy and Amy White) with 244.

Airdrie Harriers (Demi McGiff, Roisin Smith, Elise Wylie and Emma Millar), the SUPERTEAMS club winners in January, took bronze with 242.

The Irish boys were even more impressive than their female counterparts, taking two of the three podium positions.

St Brendans AC (Shane Lowth, Fionan MacKessey, Billy Courtney and Iorla Courtney) took the overall victory with 310 points, with Ferrybank AC (Dylan Kearns, Corman McCann, Tadhy Brennan and Frankie Dolphin) finishing second with 271.

Victoria Park City of Glasgow (Kyle Thomson, Liam McHugh, Arron Dickson and Ewen Urquhart), winners of the first ever SUPERTEAMS competition which took place in conjunction with the Scottish Inter-Regional Championships outdoors in May 2009, were the first placed Scottish club in third overall with 261.

Highlights from Saturday's SUPERTEAMS action will be uploaded to the scottishathletics YouTube channel soon!
