Stewarts' Scottish Road Race Grand Prix 2010

Stewarts' Scottish Road Race Grand Prix 2010

For the third year, Stewarts will sponsor the Scottish Road Race Grand Prix series in 2010.

Last year 250 athletes scored points in the fourth year of the Stewarts' Road Race Grand Prix format and scottishathletics is pleased to confirm that Stewarts - a leading print and digital media company based in Central Scotland - has extended its sponsorship through 2010.

Building on the success of previous years, this year's series, which commences in March, will see competitors record their best five results from seven available scoring events (compared to five from nine in 2009), focusing on the peak road running months and Scotland's foremost races.

The total prize pool for 2010 is £5,340 with individual awards extended down to tenth place and a masters category (40+). A new additional financial incentive will be the refund of race entry fees by scottishathletics for the immediately following Stewarts Grand Prix fixture - if they run - to any member who finishes in the top three senior scorers in the preceding event.

Prize money will be awarded as follows:

POSITION  MALE/FEMALE SENIOR  MALE/FEMALE 40+
1              £850                         £200
2              £500                         £100
3              £300                         £50
4              £200
5              £150
6              £100
7              £80
8              £60
9              £45
10            £35

Awards to the winners will be awarded at the scottishathletics Annual Awards Dinner in November.

The fixtures for the 2010 Stewarts Scottish Road Race Grand Prix are as follows, with double points on offer in the series final (Stirling):

Ron Morrison, Road Running & Cross Country Commission convenor said:"The Road Running and Cross Country Commission are delighted to see the return of the Stewarts Road Race Grand Prix. We have taken the opportunity to align the series with the newly established Home Countries International Series and the Scottish Road Championships to give an emphasis on quality fields in Scotland in the context of mass participation events."

Terry O'Hare, Managing Director of Stewarts, said: "We are delighted to continue our support of the Scottish Road Race Grand Prix in 2010. Since our initial involvement in 2008 it's been great to see so many of the country's top athletes battling it out in events throughout Scotland, ensuring that the standard of competition, at the sharp end especially, is high. The decision by the RR&CC to align the series with the Scottish Road Championships events will further improve the overall series profile"

"This is a very exciting time for athletics in Scotland with the London Olympics and Glasgow Commonwealth Games coming up in the next few years, and more immediately, the Delhi Games in October. Our athletes, such as last year's women's winner Toni McIntosh who is targeting the Commonwealth Games marathon, have an important summer ahead as they give their all to achieve qualifying standards across a number of events. I hope that our involvement is a small contribution to that effort."
