Four Scots heading to Euro Hill Champs

Wednesday 1st July 2015

Catriona Graves – represents GB Junior Women

Scotland’s strength at hill running will be brought into focus again this weekend.

The GB and NI team head for the Portuguese island of Madeira for the Euro Hill Running Champs and they do so with 25 percent of the 16-strong team hailing from north of the border.

Andrew Douglas, Robbie Simpson, Catriona Graves and Jacob Adkin are the Scots preparing for the races at Porto Moniz following selection.

Douglas was an automatic selection after winning the British Mountain Challenge race at Glenridding which doubled as the Euro trial. The Inverclyde AC athlete is again joined in the Senior Men’s team by Deeside’s Robbie Simpson, who has been racing and training in Austria for spells recently.

Adkin, of Moorfoot Runners, finished third in the Junior Men’s race at the trials and is rewarded with a place in that four-strong team.

And Catriona Graves of Garscube Harriers, who did not race the trial, asked to be considered on previous form following fine performances last summer at the Europeans and the Worlds and was picked in the Junior Women’s selection.

Strong performances by Scots at 2014 Euros

Good luck to these four Scottish athletes and congratulations to their families and coaches on the GB selections, as well as the clubs who helped develop them over the years.
