scottishathletics Cross Country Team Challenge (Short Course) 2014/15

scottishathletics are pleased to announce the Cross Country Team Challenge (Short Course) for winter 2014 – starting with the three District Relays events this weekend.

Building on the success of the scottishathletics Cross Country Grand Prix series, the Challenge is focused on team performance in the three short course events (4K) at the beginning of the Cross Country Season.

The challenge is open to Senior/U20 teams from Scottish clubs, both Men and Women.

Entry is automatic for clubs participating in the following events:

District CC Relays: October 11: North (Evanton), West (Port Glasgow)

District CC Relays: October 12: East (Peebles)

National CC Relays: October 25:  Cumbernauld

National 4k Champs: November 9:  Bellahouston, Glasgow

The scoring system is as follows:

District CC Relays: 1st (10 points) reducing by 1 to 10th (1 point)

National CC Relays:  1st (20 points) reducing by 1 to 20th (1 point)

National 4K Champs: 1st (20 points) reducing by 1 to 20th (1 point)

After each stage of the competition, clubs will be ranked based on their team placing, culminating in final Challenge standings after the Scottish 4k Cross Country Championships.

In the event of a tie for first place the positions in the 4k Championship will determine the final standings.

Second and third teams and so on will be eligible for the Challenge. In the 4K championships they will only be calculated for the purposes of the Challenge, but not for the Championships themselves.

The winning clubs (Men and Women) will be eligible for the 1st prize of £25o.  Central AC won both the men’s and women’s Challenges in 2013.

*The three District XC Relays mark the start of the Team Challenge (Short Course) and all at scottishathletics would like to thank clubs for entries for Port Glasgow, Peebles and Evanton.

We’ve had a really good response again this year with numbers at similar levels to 2013 and matching the great support from athletes, coaches, clubs, parents and volunteers for various events through the year.

If you are competing in the West event on Saturday, please note the separate story about a change of course – with the Port Glasgow High School ‘base’ venue unchanged.

Clubs in the North also gather on Saturday at Evanton and there are details on that fixture on the calendar page.

It is a Sunday event for the East clubs in Peebles and those headed to that event are asked to check out the information supplied on the page for that fixture.

*Note that due to holidays, we are likely to cover the District XC Relays in one website story on Monday or Tuesday next week.
