XC GP 2016-17 Rules

scottishathletics are pleased to announce the return of the Cross Country Grand Prix for 2016-17 season.

Established in 2008/09, the Cross Country Grand Prix will incorporate three of Scotland’s biggest and best cross country races, while also including two key fixtures in England.

The competition is open to Senior athletes – men and women – and we hope it will act as a catalyst to get our leading athletes to race against each other regularly, while also competing with distinction at a UK level.

There’s £4000 worth of prize-money on offer with the overall winners, male and female, each collecting £750. The second-place athletes win £400 and those in third £250 and then down to 10th place.

‘The Cross Country Grand Prix has been very successful in attracting our best athletes,’ said John Rodger, scottishathletics Road Running and Cross Country Commission Convenor.

‘It has become an integral part of the Cross–Country season, enhancing the competitive edge of our National and District Championships.’

Last year, Angela Richardson (Fife AC) won the women’s series from Freya Ross (Edinburgh AC) and Rosie Smith (Hunters Bog Trotters), while Andrew Butchart (Central AC) won the men’s series from Alex Hendry (Central AC) and Michael Ferguson (Aberdeen AAC).

Interested athletes should note that entries are now being taken for the first event – the 4K races for Seniors at the Short Course Champs at Renfrew.

And entries are open for British Cross Challenge events with Liverpool coming up on November 26, via the British Athletics website.
