The scottishathletics Annual General Meeting will be held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Saturday 30 September.

This year’s event covers the 12-month period from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017 and that takes in both the Rio Olympics and Paralympics – and some spectacular success at home and abroad across the wide spectrum of athletics.

Clubs should be aware we are currently preparing the Annual Report and are asked to ‘save the date’ of September 30 should they wish to attend the AGM. It Is hoped as many clubs as possible will send representatives for this important gathering of the sport.

At that meeting, one of the motions will be that the position of Honorary President be for four-year terms and thus falls into line with the roles of President and Chair (with a maximum of two four-year terms).

The Honorary President’s role is currently vacant after Sir Menzies Campbell stepped down last month following some 27 years of sterling service by the former GB and Scotland international sprinter.

In thanking Sir Menzies for his contribution, scottishathletics Chairman Ian Beattie said: ‘All of the Board recognise the lengthy and significant contribution you have made to athletics in Scotland, both as an athlete and during the many years you have held the position of Honorary President.

‘We very much intend to mark our gratitude for that contribution at our Annual Awards Dinner in November.’
